Ms. Bratton has taught for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools for two years. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fashion Merchandising and Design from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in 2007 and she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from University of North Carolina Charlotte in 2015.
Ms. Bratton’s favorite pieces of literature to read with her students are The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats and Caps for Sale by Esphyr Siobodkina. What she enjoys most about TutorMate is the excitement she sees in her students’ eyes when the computer rings and they know the call is for them. She also appreciates how easy it is to get in contact with her students’ teachers when there is a last-minute schedule change. Ms. Bratton’s favorite part of the school day is intervention group time, when scholars can focus solely on what they need to do to be successful on benchmark assessments.
WHAT MAKES THIS CLASSROOM SUCCESSFUL
It takes several steps for a teacher to ensure students have productive tutoring sessions with their tutors. This teacher has shown exceptional achievement in the following areas:
Scheduling: The teacher carefully blocks out breakfast times, prep, dismissal, etc, and updates the calendar whenever there are changes to the schedule.
Student Greeter info: The teacher has trained this student to go get the tutee instead of hollering across the room.
Classroom management: Best practices the teacher has instilled for kids, such as using their tutoring voices, respecting the “Quiet Please” sign, etc.
Teacher-Tutor Messaging: The teacher messages tutors whenever unexpected events cause students to be unavailable.
Frequency of Reading Stage Updates: Updates their student's reading stages on a consistent basis, ensuring they are working at the appropriate reading level with their tutors.
Reading Stage Growth: Most students have shown significant reading stage growth since they began the school year.
