Her current favorite classroom book is After the Fall (How Humpty Dumpty Got Back Up Again) by David Sanitat. This is the story of what happened after Humpty Dumpty fell, including some important and inspirational lessons for readers of all ages about facing fears and how it’s what happens after you “fall” that truly counts.
Originally from Florida, Brittany moved to Denver in 2010. She is married with two daughters (Amor and Kiersten), and a dog (Magic). In her free time, she enjoys doing arts and crafts, spending time with family and friends, and dancing.
WHAT MAKES THIS CLASSROOM SUCCESSFUL
It takes several steps for a teacher to ensure students have productive tutoring sessions with their tutors. This teacher has shown exceptional achievement in the following areas:
Scheduling: She also took TutorMate attendance every day, and always replied with a quick acknowledgment if a tutor messaged her about rescheduling.
Student Greeter info: Ms. Williams used the “Student Greeter” function as one of her rotating classroom jobs so that every student has a chance to answer the phone and feel like they are part of TutorMate even if they don’t have an assigned tutor.
Classroom management:When asked about the “secret” to her high success rate, she reports that she gave her students ownership over helping her keep the computer on and ready as well as taking attendance each day.
Teacher-Tutor Messaging: Ms. Williams messages tutors whenever unexpected events cause students to be unavailable.
Frequency of Reading Stage Updates: Ms. Williams also updated her classroom reading levels multiple times throughout the year, making certain tutors had the most accurate information regarding what level might be best for their student.
Reading Stage Growth: Ms. Williams maintained an outstanding 94% TutorMate success rate in her classroom this year - the highest of any Denver classroom.
Teacher Responsiveness: Ms. Williams always replied with a quick acknowledgment if a tutor messaged her about rescheduling.
CBRE Tutors in Ms. Williams room reported feeling valued and appreciated and Ms. Williams frequently ended her messages with a heartfelt “Thanks for all you do!” Holm ES has participated in TutorMate for two years with volunteer tutors from CBRE, a commercial real estate services firm.
