Ms. Kimberly Macklin Roberto Clemente Elementary School Detroit , MI
Ms. Kimberly Macklin has taught for the Detroit Public Schools Community District for 18 years, and at Roberto Clemente Learning Academy for 12 years. She graduated with a B.A. in Elementary Education from Eastern Michigan University in 2000. Ms. Macklin, also, received her Masters in the Art of Education from Marygrove College in 2004. Roberto Clemente Learning Academy’s student population is primarily Hispanic. The high ELL student population, within Ms. Macklin’s classroom, creates an additional layer of literary challenges.
Her favorite piece of Children’s Literature to read to her students is Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss. Ms. Macklin’s favorite part of the school day is during the morning routine when the students put their reading skills to work both independently or with a buddy.
TutorMate has been a highlight for many students, year after year. Their eyes get wide as saucers every time the computer rings in hopes that it is for them! Students literally will drop everything when it’s time for their session. It has been like watching a flower bloom. The students go from shy (barely audible) to outgoing unable to contain their excitement or voice level!
"My students and I are extremely grateful for the opportunity to continue their learning in a unique and exciting way. Kudos to the team and volunteers for their time and effort!" - Ms. Macklin
