Ms. Dewey has taught at Coit Arts Academy for the Grand Rapids Public Schools for 19 years. She graduated with a B.A. in Elementary Education from Grand Valley State University in 1999. She then went on to earn a Master’s in the Art of Teaching from Western Michigan University in the late 2000’s. Coit has a focus on Music and the Arts, and is in the process of becoming IB certified.
Ms. Dewey shares that her students so look forward to their calls from tutors that they would rather skip specials and even recess to take their calls! She most appreciates her students’ opportunity to hold weekly conversations with an adult completely focused on them. This also helps her students practice holding conversations. Mrs. Dewey thinks the conversation aspect of talking with the tutor on the phone gives the students a great deal of confidence. She thinks it may even be more important than the actual tutoring!
