"For the past 3 years, TutorMate has had a great impact on my first-grade class. When we first started the program, I was kind of skeptical on how TutorMate would be able to help my students. I was quickly proven wrong. Within a couple of weeks, I began to see improvement in my students in several different areas. The first being their confidence. As a reluctant reader, many of the students are very quiet and do not participate during the literacy block. After the tutoring sessions began, I noticed an increase in the participation of these students. Also, academically I have seen a great increase in the students reading levels and sight word recognition. Another area that I noticed was the wonderful relationships that the students made with their tutors. It is so great to hear them have in-depth conversations with their tutors. It is priceless to see the excitement the students have when they get to meet their tutors at the end of the year." - Mrs. Barrera, 1st Grade
