Ms. Wheeler William A. Blair Elementary Dallas, TX
Ms. Wheeler received her Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 1995 from Grambling State University and Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Psychology, She has held her State of board certification to teach Early Childhood thru fourth grade for 18 years, and currently she is graduating with a master’s degree in curriculum instruction with an emphasis in literacy from the University of Texas at Arlington in December 2019. She became a teacher in 2001 and has only worked on one campus , William A. Blair elementary. She taught 5th grade for one year, 3rd grade for 16 years and is currently second grade for one year. She teaches because she wants students to develop a passion for reading and understand the importance of how reading is the key to unlock all possibilities. She loves seeing the students grow from being a struggling reader to being able to comprehend what they have read.Ms. Wheeler doesn’t have a favorite children’s book. She reads all types of books from various authors. Ms. Wheeler loves reading and escaping into a new adventure each time she reads. There are two parts of the day that she most enjoys. Morning circle is where she is able to sit and develop trust with the students. She gets to know them as a person and show them that she cares about not only their academics but their social emotional learning as well. Second, she loves small group/guided reading at her yellow table. Students feel comfortable in asking questions and sharing if they can’t decode a word. Ms. Wheeler enjoys hearing them discuss the story, ask questions beyond the text, and make real life connection.
“TutorMate has been a great experience. There has never been a program that not only helps the students with various parts of Reading but truly cares about getting to know the students and were consistent in tutoring their buddy. Dr. Bell was a joy to work with and had a pleasant attitude everyone time we chatted, and this showed me she genuinely cared about the students’ success. The students loved the one on one tutoring with the tutors. When the tutors called the students, they were elated to use the technology to help them with Reading. When she shared with them that we would have an end of the year party with TutorMate, they looked forward to meeting their tutor. I am elated to receive help in reading with my students and I looking forward to this program next year.” - Ms. Wheeler
